National Meetings Industry Day (NMID – www.nmid.ca), an annual event focusing on the significance of the Canadian meetings industry and the value of meetings to the broader business community, with events in all major Canadian cities. Prime Minister Stephen Harper has acknowledged NMID stating, “This special day of activities offers a wonderful opportunity to raise the profile of the industry and highlight the many benefits it generates.”
NMID is April 16, 2015. Here in our MPI Manitoba chapter we are doing a Breakfast event at the RBC Convention Centre, with three program elements:
Presentation of the National Influence Award to The Canadian Museum for Human Rights (given to an organization outside the direct meetings industry which has supported the development of meetings and conventions).
· Short report on the Canadian Economic Impact Study as it relates to Manitoba (CEIS outlines the multi-billion dollar contribution of meetings activity on the Canadian economy and quantifies the value delivered by the meeting and event industry to Canada’s economy at the regional, provincial and metropolitan levels).
· TED-Style presentations - short and snappy provocative talks (9-10 minutes).
This is an important event for everyone in the Meetings and Events industry!

Guest Speaker: Tim Hague: "Parkinson's & Perseverance: The Amazing Race"
Drawing on his experience as the winner of the inaugural season of The Amazing Race Canada, Tim weaves a story of failure and success that moves his audience. You will relive the magic of television and be lost in the wonder of storytelling as Tim recounts his adventures from The Race. Tim takes his audience on a very personal journey through his diagnosis of Parkinson’s disease at the early age of 46. You will experience the sense of loss and fear that comes from this diagnosis but more importantly the hope and the determination to persevere. Your team will be left empowered to do more than they ever thought they could. They will come away with a truer sense of what real strength and courage is. They will have a better understanding of how to face life’s challenges and succeed.

Join the Board of the MPI Manitoba Chapter and your colleagues for an EXCLUSIVE and private tour of the Canadian Museum for Human Rights (CMHR), just 10 days after it's national grand opening. Network with industry professionals and learn about the Chapter's exciting education and networking line-up for the upcoming 2014-2015 year.
The Canadian Museum for Human Rights is dominating Winnipeg's skyline and officially opening it's doors in September. Complete with meeting spaces for small and large events, the Museum will challenge, inspire and examine issues past, present and future throughout Canada and the world.
The Museum will also be of interest to conventions and meetings focused on architectural, social, educational, and spiritual themes. Chantal Sturk-Nadeau leads tourism development for Tourism Winnipeg, a division of Economic Development Winnipeg Inc. As Senior Vice President, Chantal leads the Tourism Winnipeg team, working to facilitate a healthy, prosperous, responsible and fully integrated tourism industry that supports the City's economic growth and delivers the best possible visitor experience.
Chantal has been an integral member of the Tourism Winnipeg team for 15 years. On April 18, 2013, MPI chapters all across Canada hosted events to celebrate National Meetings Industry Day (NMID). NMID was created in recognition of the power of meetings in evolving and shaping our communities economically, environmentally, socially and intellectually. NMID is an MPI initiative with three objectives:
- to define and shape the meetings and events profession in the future;
- to help raise the profile of the industry and the benefits it generates for communities and institutions
- to discuss the economic impact of meetings in their region with people who are outside of the industry
NMID has been acknowledged by The Rt. Hon. Stephen Harper. Further information on NMID is available on the national website www.nmid.ca.
